Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is a Vehicle wrap?

A vehicle wrap or car wrap is the process of changing the appearance of your vehicle, wrapping it with high performance cast vinyl, the process can be either for commercial purposes or for performance, a car can be wrapped fully or partially, covering the painted surface of the vehicle, in a digitally printed, custom designed vinyl or in a colored vinyl of your choice which is called color change. The final result looks like a brand new paint covering the surface of your car with your own custom graphics or a new color.

Will the wrap damage my vehicle paint?

Absolutely not, the wrap will not damage OEM paints, there are special vinyls that are engineer specifically for vehicle wraps, at car Wraps Center we make sure to use the specific type of vinyl for the type of surface to be wrapped, in fact these vinyls are intended to protect OEM paints from small scratches and UV light, however is important to keep on mind that old paints, repainted surfaces with a bad paint job, primed surfaces or damaged paint will no warrantee that the paint will not get damage or pilled off when the wrap is remove. Vehicles with bad paint jobs or damaged or faded paint need to be inspected to determine if the vehicle can be wrapped or not.

What is the difference between a wrap and paint job?

A paint job is permanent and is not recommended painting over OEM paint because will lower the value of your vehicle, in the other hand, a wrap is “temporary”, can last up to 5 years and can be redone over and over without damaging the original paint of your vehicle, specially wraps that serve as advertising purposes in commercial wraps. For performance purposes, you can change the color of your vehicle how many times you wish, and can be removed when you sell the car or trade it in.

How much a vehicle wraps cost?

Wraps Prices have so many variations, depending on the size and complexity of the vehicle, how much of the surface you want to cover, design and layout, labor time, etc. But one of the most common questions is: Why my mini cooper is more expensive to wrap than my box truck? It is smaller than my box truck and takes way less materials. Well… the question is simple, everything is a matter of: 1) the type of film that it uses. 2) The complexity of the vehicle and labor time that is required. In our example of the mini cooper, a more complex, specialized labor and highly trained technicians and installers are required to get the high quality of wrap that we offer at car wraps center, disassembling are way more complex and time consuming, and in addition the type of film have to be different than the one used in a box truck… more costly, a box truck no need disassembling and can be done as fast as in 4 hours, a mini cooper need at least 3 to 4 business days of process, disassembling, preparation, wrapping and assembly, all comes down to labor cost and no much about vinyl cost. We take our time for the process to be, we do not rush the application of the vinyl, giving the time, proper treatment and proper heat for the vinyl to settle correctly and avoid lifting in the future, we take the time to disassemble and not “go around” technique, we take the time and care to inspect every square inch of the paint to make sure that is smooth as can be. How long a car wrap normally last?

A wrap durability is really depends on the weather and how well you take care of your car wrap, the major vinyl manufacturer that we work with, such as 3M and Avery Denisson offer almost the same expected durability in their vinyl which is between 5 to 7 years in colored vinyls, 3 to 5 years in digitally printed vinyl and 0.6 to 2 years in chrome and textured vinyl. Keeping your wrap clean and fresh definitely will extend the life span of your vehicle wrap, in state of Florida we have many projects still around that has been wrapped over 5 years ago. However the life span of the vinyl will not be the same in the whole vehicle, films that are installed in vertically position, receive indirect impact of Sun’s UV light, while everything that is in horizontal position will receive direct hit of sun’s UV light, the durability in horizontal surfaces are less than vertical surfaces. That been said the wrap can last a minimum of 5 to 7 years for vertical surfaces and around 3 to 4 years for horizontal surfaces.

Are advertising vehicle Wraps Street legal?

Before you wrap your car for commercial purposes, check with local municipalities, some restriction may apply mostly in regards to windows visibility, Also if you live in a home owner association or neighborhood covenants that regulate policies of wrapped vehicles parked in front of your home. If it is a personal vehicle you might be required to be registered as a commercial vehicle. In state of Florida there is no special category for “wraps” they are treated like any other advertising sign, if the vehicle is parked and clearly advertising to a regulated highway, they will issue a violation. Some are more obviously stationary than others, of course, and the state or city monitors those that are considered borderline to see whether they ever leave the parked location. If they remain, the state or city will issue a violation. If the vehicle is actually mobile and is being driven around, State of Florida has no authority to regulate.

How the wrap is removed? can I do it myself?

Car wraps removal should be performed by professionals, although wrap vinyl are easy to remove without leaving any adhesive or residues, it peels right off, but a wrap that has been done by professionals, will required a professional technicians to disassemble the vehicle in order to remove all the pieces that are trapped between door handles, mirrors, bumpers and other parts of the vehicle. And of course, a car wrap can be removed by anyone that has the skills and knowledge to strip the car apart.

How long the installation processes take?

The installation process time depends on the type of project, if it is a commercial wrap or a color change wrap and also the size and complexity of the vehicle. Normally standard color change wraps for standards and some luxury cars can take between 3 to 6 business days, exotic cars can take up to 10 business days, commercial cars, pick-ups and vans can take between 1 to 3 business days after the artwork has been approved and all the vinyls are printed and ready to install. Can I wrap my vehicle windows?

Definitely, most of the windows of a vehicle can be wrapped, except for the front passenger and driver window and the windshield. Most of the wraps design are optimized to use the most of the space available including the windows, graphics in windows can be in two ways, solid vinyl (same as the wrap) more cost effective but you won’t be able to see through, and micro perforated vinyl, which once the vehicle is fully wrapped, we cut out the windows and replace it with a film that is 50% holes and 50% vinyl, mostly used for the rear windows, you will see though like a windows tint.

Why I should by a car wrap?

For advertising purposes, vehicle wraps are today’s most cost effective media to promote your business, high visibility and exposure, branding recognition, lead generation attract more business and business means more sales, because you can reach millions of people 24/7/365 for as long the wrap last anywhere your go. For performance color change wraps: well… it is clear, you want it, you are special and you want your car to be unique!

Will my wrap have seems?

Most of cases car wraps are seamless, but seems are unavoidable and required for some parts, seems can normally be found in complex bumpers and entries to deep to stretch the vinyl, although seems are a good thing because allow a complex piece to be wrapped in several parts without over stretching the vinyl, they are mostly invisible and hidden from the naked eye, but allow to work the vinyl around without stressing it to the point where the vinyl will not perform as intended.

Will my new wrap protect my vehicle paint?

Car wraps are not intended to protect paint, instead to give it a different look or for advertising purposes, a wrap can prevent small chips but will not protect the paint underneath from bigger rock chips, dents, scratches etc. In the other hand, a car wrap will protect the paint from sun’s UV light.
